I may be looking into mics in the somewhat near future.... so what do you guys recomend? I would be looking for some good mics, not low-end, but not REALLY high-end either.. Would Shures get the job done? Do they make good overhead mics... plus the rest of it? What other companies are out there as well?

I have the SM-57 on my snare and it's pretty good. I'm currently looking for overheads as well.

It really depends on your price range, and your kit size, if you can afford to drop around $500 on mics, go ahead and grab one of the AKG, Shure PG or Audix DP drum mic packages, otherise, as far as more budget mics that'll do a good job, for around $300, you can get the Audix Fusion6 mic pack, which has enough mics to mic a 5 piece kit (minus the snare). Regardless of what mic kit you get, I'd highly recomend getting a Shure SM57 for the snare, there's not a better mic out there for micing a snare drum (and it only costs about $60). Let me know what your price range is and I can give you a better idea of what to look for.

nagrath is right about the 57, the 57 and 98(discontinued, beta 98 only now, still good) are the best all around mics out there for a decent price range.
