I just picked up one of these today and man if you suck at tuning your kit then you really need one of these!! It measures tympanic pressure instead of lug tension so you don't have to worry about sticky lugs. It also showed how bad I was at tuning my kicks, they were WAY out of whack. I had all my drums in tune with themselves with in a half hour, it usually took me over 2 hrs just to try and tune the kicks. Only drawback is it costs over $60.

I have one. Amazing tuning tool. Tunes up your drums very well in a very short amount of time. Perfect for a quick tune up before gigging or practicing.

So all you have to do is put it in the middle of the drum head?

I use one also. I have yet to find the "sweet spot" on my toms... but it help with tuning considerably. I bought mine from Guitar Center and it was $80 or $90.
